We miss a missionary par excellence whom have made the IT reach its
limelight of today, and he made it possible that it reached even the
remotest and under privileged of the country. He has set the path for
us and our deepest condolences to his family.

I was very sad to hear of Prof. Sam’s death.  I am sure that you are right that he leaves a large lacuna.  I am very pleased that the accolades to which Jayantha refers and which were recently prepared by colleagues were produced while he was able to hear them, very deservedly, for himself.

I hope that the awareness of how much he was appreciated internationally will help to demonstrate our awareness of the warmth of his personality and the consequent affection in which he was held by us all.  I also hope that it will help to bring the esteem in which he was held to the attention of both his family as well as to you, his colleagues, in order to help to provide a little consolation to you all for his loss.

It is indeed very sad news not only for his immediate family and Sri Lanka, but also for his many friends around the world.  I shall remember his contribution to the work of the UNECE and also  remember, with great fondness, my trip to Sri Lanka some years with David and Kenji ( and David Dobbing) where Prof Sam’s  kindness and thought were clear to all of us who came. Please pass on my condolences to his family. They will be in my thoughts.

Dear all,

It was shocked me when I hear this saddest news; “our father of ICT4D in Sri Lanka, has passed away at Sweden in an official visit”. I took a moment and remind the contributions what he made to Sri Lanka in the ICT field. If he didn’t plant a seed long ago how can we reap the benefits of the ICT4D in Sri Lanka today? There is no ward to express his life long commitments/ contributions he rendered to this country.
Nevertheless, he was one of our guiding lights in Sarvodaya Telecentre Programme since its inception. We learnt lot from him in this ICT4D field.  As a member of Sarvodaya Fusion family, I extend my deepest sympathies to Professor’s family.
